I'm currently obsessed with and addicted to DAVIDs TEA.

It's the best tea shop ever!! It's everywhere across Canada and only in NY, in the States.

My favourite categories are Rooibos, Pu'erh, and Black Tea.

Their 'Pu'erh Ginger Tea' is an instant cure for mood swings and signs of cold.

Once you get in, it's hard to leave without getting a pack of 50 g tea which is only about $6.50 CAD. I'm going to try Chocolate Chilli Chai, Cheeky Lychee from Black Tea and Organic Creme de Menthe from Pu'erh Tea, Coco Chai Rooibos, Rooibos de Provence...

A beautiful Christmas tree in the apt building... After a hectic first real teaching week at work, at the end of the week (finally!!) I realize that Christmas, and a New Year is just around the corner. I don't know if I'm getting any better at waking up at the crack of dawn, but I am definitely getting better at sleep walking. Working without my morning coffee makes even sleep talking, hallucinating voices and forgetting to turn off the stove- burning my pot to ashes- possible. Now thinking, what have I gotten myself into? Am I walking slowly into a swamp. But I hope there's something nice in the swamp. Maybe a waterproof spa and massage coupon... ahhh... :)

First week with Simba

It's about time to update my blog... I've been super busy with resuming my life here in BC. Now I feel like settling in with a new job offer. It's hard to believe I got a job within a week. I hope it's not so challenging and hope I can enjoy the work even though my interviewers kind of warned me that many people had quit after two months... Anyhow, all the worries aside, I have been getting lots of fresh air while walking with and throwing balls to Simba. He is a good dog but loves a ball wayyyyy tooo much which tests my patience when I try to get the ball out of his mouth. I need some advice on how to get a ball out of a doggie's mouth! Sometimes grass looks greener on the other side but I realize that I have learned to consciously remind myself that grass is greener and the sky is bluer on my side. I am grateful...:)

- go do the groceries at organic market

- have blueberries and apple with yogurt, mango juice, avocados with black olives and Pumpkin Chai Tea

This is why I love Vancouver.

Of course, without being apprised of the fact that the Chloé's designer is replaced from Hannah MacGibbon to Clare Waight Keller, one can hardly suspect any change as far as the pith of Chloé's style- "Fluidity, femininity, but boyish"- goes. Although one may say it's a safe bet to avoid anything unprecedented, I would say it's a transition expressed in a felicitous manner that allows room for anticipation for the next season. When I feel indolent and things seem inert, I have a bent for looking at colors from fashion whether it be a single color by itself, or as in an assemblage. It gives me an intuitive sense of where I want to be and where I am now. This color palette in Chloe Spring 2012 collection seems to illustrate the latter. The austerity of her style and the spectrum of nude and blush colors are coalescing in such a way that it escapes from jejuneness or superfluousness :)))))

As my ambivalence about philistines continue to pervade in my personal and social life, I still believe it gauche for someone to take brand values for the purpose of vaunting one's status without sensible appreciation for the value of fastidious craftsmanship and intransigent quality the designer divulge in his or her denouement. I do not however demur apotheosis of luxury brands as some are veraciously worthy of accolades, making a word 'luxury' an understatement. In this case with Chanel, other than exorbitant prices being the only encumbrance, I can be as regaled and amazed as I can be just by looking at this beautiful collection for coming Spring. Its insouciance as a result of such a precise execution resembles the limpidity of water and brings me a waft of warm air... To the seemingly imminent arrival of winter, I supplicate thee to be mollified by these pastel colors, if at all possible. :)

Despite my inveterate proclivity to stick to things basic and minimal for the sake of versatility when it comes to purchasing dresses, I cannot help adoring the bright pop colors and zigzag patterns on the dresses in Carven's Spring 2012 collection. This is such a pristine and blithe style with the delicate laces and knitted dresses juxtaposed with light pink collars conveying a sort of urbane and perhaps audacious young girl. On top of that, the icecream cone shaped frame and the amazing collage done by Miss Moss aggrandize its ebullience. :)) Thanks to Miss Moss and Carven, I cannot wait for Spring to arrive.

But i really really had my eye on this bracelet for a while and since I didn't get my summer vacation, I got this as a compensation for myself. Hermes enamel bracelet in black and gold. I got the black as my first one since it's classic and versatile. It can be matched with any outfit, casual, formal, dressy, anything and any color of outfits! However, now that I have it, I want one of each color!! I can only hope for now...but this is incredibly adorable and chic. Love.XO

After 145 years, finally Korean historical royal books have made it home from France. If it weren't for Park Byung Sun, who found the pile of books among Chinese books in the National Library of France while working as a librarian there in 1975, it could have not made it home and there could have been no way that we knew of its existence. These are books that record protocols and procedures of royal ceremonies and these were meant to be handed down generation after generation. It was priceless to see the delicate illustrations, drawings and writings.

Emile Morel is a 21st C. Hieronymus Bosch. Very interesting works from Lyon, France were presented at Gallery NOW in Seoul. How the overall dreamy imagery seems to illustrate moral concepts and narratives were, at least to me, reminded me of works by Hieronymus Bosch. The visible difference could be that there were some toys that resembled works by the Japanese contemporary artist, Takashi Murakami, and how the works looked somehow dreamy, nostalgic, as well as depressing and really the use of pastel colors that set the entire tone of the exhibition.

A bowl of rice? Not exactly. This is a bowl of Black Tea shaved ice with various nuts and condensed milk...and little green tea cookies.. Love love love..

You can be creative with how to mix the nuts into the ice without making it overflow ;)

This hot weather calls for this view... take me here!

We've been lucky to have clear blue sky for several consecutive days after serious down pouring rain. The only thing missing is clear blue water and some vacation. It won't be too bad spending my weekdays by the outdoor pool that is only a few minutes away from my place by walk. This makes spending summer at home so much easier than last year. And by the time the pool closes, my vacation will be just around the corner. Of course I will be missing French Riviera from time to time quite randomly, but I will hang in there. I will fight the summer heat. I will dig in my heels, or better yet, I will walk in my heels-to-be-purchased. I will enjoy my omiza tea. I think this is a perfect place for me to be, at this moment.
My new morning routine became reading a newspaper. It's quite exciting because I didn't expect it to be. However, it kind of took me away from other readings and I need to have a book list for a poolside reading. I am reading The Kid Lawyer by John Grisham. After this, I will read Julie Orringer's "The Invisible Bridge." . Still haven't finished The Biography of Jackie O. I don't think I need to force myself to keep reading just for the sake of finishing it, especially when I don't find it interesting anymore. I guess this time I should admit that Biographies are not my cup of tea. It's interesting to know more than I knew before about Jackie O, and the newly acquired facts certainly, more than I hoped, have changed the way I look at Jackie O and John Kennedy. I wonder if I will find out more interesting sides of Jackie O or if it will tell me different situations that reflect the same character of her.

How pretty are theseee!

Dazed by a sudden on-line snatching before transaction, determined to get the rest I put in my shopping bag, I declare my success in getting my hands on a few sexy little things from Agent Provocateur Sale. It was extremely hard to find things that were not out of stock! And when I found something and put them in my basket, proceed my transaction, suddenly the page refreshes and the precious are out of my sight. Well, I almost felt like I was actually in the store, holding on to a stringy panties while another woman has another string across from me, holding it ever so lightly as not to ruin the delicate lace. just like in the book, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" by Muriel Barbery. People in lingerie department always have this motto,

"You don’t need a boyfriend to wear sexy things!" which just has become one of the things I now unashamedly live by.
Can't wait for my order to arrive...:)))

What's fascinating here is how the colors in a room seem to be drawn directly from the art work over the headboard. Another thing, the couple seen through the open door leading to the swimming pool, almost seems like another painting. ;)

a huge artwork in the kitchen. Personally, I would prefer real flowers in the kitchen and limit the flower paintings to rooms.

I like the choice of typeface which is simple and updated but at the same time has the historic feel to it. Especially in the letter 'C' you can see how the slanted cuts resonate with the imagery.

Happy Saturday and welcome back home. This week has just flew by so quick but it felt like a month! I have been doing so much work everyday during my business trip to Ho Chi Minh. I met so many people, from the chairman at people's committee, MASD ( The Management Authority of South Saigon Development), the vice manager at culture and information division at the people's committee, Saatchi & Saatchi, a bunch of people from GS, and one of my friends from college! It was packed with interesting mix of Vietnamese and French/ Western cuisine. Business trips are not as fun as it sounds but it was very productive as we conducted 10 interviews either as a group or as an individual, within 5 days! Plus, we didn't forget to do shopping at local markets, malls, bookstores and duty free shops...

Something I found at Orrefors Glassworks. Collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld!
I love how glasses under so much heat and fire turn into something that look so cold.
There seem to be nothing in between. Karl Lagerfeld's design is not only minimalistic, it looks really cold as it bears a strong resemblance to icecubes. It makes me wonder how it would be like to drink warm coffee in those glasses. :)

Sooooo what should I pack for my first day of work?

What are some of the to-do list? Getting a foot massage? Pigging out on juicy, fresh mangoes and filling my bag with dry mangoes? Never taking out my cell phone on the street and watching out for bag/phone snatchers on motorbikes? Not drinking or brushing my teeth with tab water? The list goes on. Maybe it's a good idea to bring swim suits and a pair of sneakers in case we do some guided tours. Otherwise, there will be lots of picture taking, note taking, interviewing!! Hope the weather is nice and predictable and we steer clear of mosquitoes without mosquito bracelets...:)

Wide Pants...

It's a warm enough time to take out my linen wide pants! As an office look it's much preferred than a long skirt- I think it looks more professional, linen is flowy enough to look elegant if matched with a silk top, on top of that, it's WIDE which makes it super comfortable to move around in! Oh and I can walk or run up stairs without worrying about showing too much of my legs! :))

It's a postcard I found while going through my drawers. It looks like it's painted by a little child. I like the use of primary colors, but the red seems more like vermilion...imaginary monster friends...

je souhaite que j'ai plus de temps pour etudier francaise avant mon exam! Apres l'exam, mon project prochain serait open water dive cours. Mais d'abord, je dois etudier.. Demain, je vais a Ulsan pour la cérémonie de mon grand pere. Il est décédé depuis un annee. (Cet blog est devenir l'espace pour mon étude d'ecrit en francaise. :)

1700's Drawings

I got these two beautiful drawings done by two of the most famous artists in 1700's. The 미인도 or Portrait of a Beauty is by Shin Yoon Bok from Joseon Dynasty.

While Shin Yoon Bok was a student of Kim Hong Do whose drawing is the second one where the cat is surprised by the butterfly, Shin Yoon Bok was better in depicting female figures and naturally became more known for eroticism. In 미인도, the shortened jeogori (the upper garment of Hanbok) with tightened sleeves, the white Beoseon (socks) peeking out under the full skirt, and the two orange waist belt bands left untied are the details not to be missed. Kim Hong Do, also known as Danwon, is one of Joseon's three greatest painters, together with Hyewon (Shin Yoon Bok) and Owon. The 'Hwangmyonongjeopdo' which can be translated to ' A yellow cat teasing a butterfly' has this chubby beautiful cat that looks up at the butterfly. The eye of the cat is witty and it almost looks like it's doing a little dancing. It was a great 득템. :))

At Gansong Gallery in Seoul

I went to see the Sa Gun Ja or Four Gentlemen Exhibition at Gansong Gallery. Four Gentlemen in art refers to four plants: the orchid, the bamboo; the chrysanthemum; and the plum blossom. There were lots of bamboo drawings from 1700's. The four also depicts unfolding of four seasons throughout the year as orchid is for spring, bamboo for summer, chrysanthemum for fall and plum blossom for winter. I loved to see how each artist had a different brush strokes and styles of drawings and how their hand writings also played a role in creating the overall style and character. At the end of the exhibition, there was a little surprise- a white peacock! -

which was utterly amazing.

Art class with Michael. He's making a storyboard based on Tolstoy's What Men Live By.

I like the way he uses colors. Even when I asked him to tell me how each character in a book should look like if he were to do a casting for a movie, he told me what colors of shirt, pants and shoes they should be wearing. I am very blessed to be teaching a very talented boy. :)
